Representatives of Aisha Buhari Donate Relief Materials to Jos IDPs

Mrs Aisha Buhari, wife of President Muhammadu Buhari, on Friday donated some relief materials to Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) Camp in Bukuru, Jos South Local Government Area of Plateau

The items included bags of rice, provisions, clothing materials, condiments and toiletries.

In her remark at occasion, Buhari, represented by Mrs Mairo Al-Makura, First lady of Nasarawa State, said the gesture was to alleviate the sufferings of IDPs.

Mrs Al-Makura said that apart from presenting the materials on behalf of the wife of the president, she also visited the camp to assess the condition of living of the IDPs.

“I am here to inspect the condition of living and facilities in this camp in order to assess the areas of need and take feed back to the wife of the President for further necessary action, ‘’ she said.

She said that women were always the worse hit by crises in the society.

Al-Makura therefore urged mothers to train their children in a Godly manner in order not to be coerced by societal pressures to indulge in negative activities.

She commended Stefanos Foundation, the Managers of the camp, for taking care of the IDPs, even as she urged individuals, NGOs and corporate organisations to help in alleviating their sufferings.

Earlier in her remarks, Mrs Regina Lalong, wife of Plateau governor, said the donation, which was in collaboration with the wife of the President, was to show support for the IDPs.

She expressed worry that displaced women and children lived in harsh conditions deprived of basic social amenities.

“I am sad seeing the number of women and children who have been displaced from their homes live in unimaginable conditions on account of conflicts,” she said.

Lalong urged aggrieved persons in the society to resolve issues instead of resorting to violence, stressing that no amount of grievance could justify violence against fellow human being.

She pledged that the Plateau Government would work hard to improve the living conditions of the IDPS.

Mr Mark Lipdo, Programme Coordinator, Stefanos Foundation, commended the wives of the President and governor of Plateau for their kind gesture.

He said that the camp, which was established last year with more than 470 families, now, had 94 families because many IDPs had been reunited with their families and communities.

“With the support of individuals, government and NGOs, we have settled some families into communities within and outside Plateau.

He urged the state government to assist the foundation in providing health services and teachers for the IDPs.
