The Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) in Plateau State has cautioned the government of Plateau State and security agencies to manage the situation surrounding the recent suspension of Local Government Executives and the appointment of Transition Committee Chairmen across the 17 LGAs in order not to degenerate the security situation in the State. They also urged security agencies not to compound and complicate issues by their actions or inactions.

This was contained in a statement issued by the Plateau State Chairman of IPAC, Abubakar Dogara and made available to this medium in Jos, the Plateau capital.

Dogara however called on the suspended local government executives to ensure they follow due process and not take the law into their hands, thereby encouraging lawlessness.

Dogara threw the caution on the wake of the assumption of office by Chairmen of the Transition Committees cross the 17 LGAs which took place today. Though the exercise was largely peaceful, the suspended LG Executives in some LGAs put up a show but however gave in.

Dogara adds that the caution is timely as it will forestall the breakdown of law and order across the state, given that supporters of both sides are likely to clash, thereby creating room to miscreants and hoodlums to take advantage of the impass to wreck havock on innocent citizens.

He urged the suspended local government executives to present themselves and their books for scrutiny before the Plateau State House of Assembly to answer allegations of financial misappropriation leveled against them, adding that the assembly has the constitutional powers to investigation them. He stressed that if they are found not guilty of the allegations, it is expected that they will return to their respective offices.
