The University of Jos Inducts its first set of Veterinary Doctors, only 16 were successful, but one story as narrated by the Dean of Veterinary Faculty, Prof. Lami lombim stood out.
Among the graduands being inducted into the Veterinary Profession today, six emerged as commendation students with a CGPA of 4.50 and above. Of this, three are ladies, thus making their Dean, Deputy Dean and all female staff proud.
on the story of why one couldn’t make it , the Dean says:
“Also, a member of this class, Mr. David Chinedu Abiayi who even though will not be inducted today won an International Award organized by the American Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene Conference under the Clinical Research Award of the American Committee on Clinical Tropical Medicine and Travelers Health (ACCTMTH). With the first position going to a student from the United Kingdom, the second position was won by our student, Mr. Abiayi and the third place by a candidate from the USA. The award-winning presentation is titled “The serological evidence of low Pathogenic Avian Influenza A/H9, A/H7, and A/H5 serotypes in local birds from Live Bird Markets, Plateau State, Nigeria”. Ladies and gentlemen, this is exactly what the Faculty aims to achieve, by training students that compete favorably worldwide and be globally competitive. May I crave your indulgence to appreciate Mr. David Chinedu Abiayi by giving him a rousing ovation. You will be wondering that inspite of achieving this feat at an international level, yet David Abiayi is not seated here among the graduands. This is because the Faculty, though student-friendly, does not compromise on certain details with respect to her curriculum. Congratulations David, for making us all proud.
The Vice-Chancellor sir, the Faculty would at this point like to appeal to the University Management to initiate a policy of absorbing the best 4 or 5 students of every set into the academic staff strength of the Faculty, starting from this Set until it can no longer engage persons due to lack of vacancy. The Dean appeals,
