The Director General Plateau State Contributory Healthcare Management Agency (PLASCHEMA), Dr Fabong Jemchang said Government policies and programmes in all ramifications can’t be achievable without media involvement.
Jemchang acknowledged that Journalists play a key role in transmitting and communicating policies of Government agencies to the public.
The DG stated this on Monday when executive members of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Plateau State Council, led by the chairman Comrade Paul Jatau paid him a courtesy call in Jos.
It would be recalled that recently the Plateau House of Assembly confirmed Dr Fabong Jemchang as a substantive DG of Plateau State Contributory Healthcare Management Agency.
According to him, NUJ is the first Union to pay him a courtesy visit. “I always stressed that whatever good the Government policy is it is the ability of any agency to communicate to the people and that cannot be possible or impossible to communicate Government policies to the people without the Journalists”.
“It would be foolishness not to be friendly with the Press. I have an idea of what the press can do! I would rather use the press for positive development, I will rather use the press to bring about edification to the people. So appreciation goes to the NUJ for their massive support since my inception in office to this very moment! It is my desire we will go from strength to strength further for more engagement, and support one another for Nigeria to be better off.
“The concerns with health insurance scheme is nothing new but we have standard operational guidelines and we have not slept in our responsibility as an agency towards the people.
“We will continue to ensure that the people in Plateau State get quality and accessible healthcare even if it means the limited resources we will not rest in our pursuit to make sure no one is left behind”, he mentioned.
While commending about NUJ discourse event with the theme:” Beyond politicking; harness Plateau potentials” which was held on 1st September 2022, the DG said it is timely.
In his words: “The programme that held September 1st, 2022, was very important because you people are harnessing Plateau potentials beyond politics and the choice of that topic is timely because is what the people want to understand that political parties are mere platforms that people used to get to authority and power. And in every position of leadership is a responsibility and to that extent, governance has nothing to do with politicking!
The chairman NUJ Plateau State Council
Comrade Paul Jatau said the purpose of the visit was to rejoice with the DG over his confirmation by the state Assembly, and also appreciate him for attending the NUJ programme last week.
“We want to pray that NUJ will continue collaboration with you so that this institution would move higher. You know as Journalists We don’t make news but we convey news. We don’t talk but we convey whatever an individual or organisation said. We thank you for opening your doors for us and we prayed that the collaboration will continue.
“We also thank you for the opportunity given to some of us to be members of what you’re doing. Having been a press-friendly person you would help reach out to those who are not familiar with what you’re doing, and we prayed that as you further your frontiers you talk more so that Plateau will be better for it.”
