The ambition of Prof. Shedrack Best, a Professor of International Relations and Peace Building, who is a frontline Governorship Aspirant of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) got momentous boost as Party Executives from the Six (6) Local Government Areas of Plateau South described him as someone full of experience, an old hand in the PDP, a vocal personality and knowledgeable enough about the entire State to lead Plateau State into the future, guaranteeing the unity and greater strength of the State.
The consummate Academic who just completed a tour of Plateau Southern Senatorial Zone met party Executives and critical stakeholders to intimate them of his intention to contest for the Governorship of the state, and to seek their support during the Party’s Primary Elections coming up shortly in the month of May 2022.
In all the Local Government Areas visited, the Scholar-Politician disclosed that he has worked closely with diverse stakeholders across all the LGAs of the southern zone, either in governance, or as a peace Builder. He hinted that he has worked specifically with traditional rulers, women, youths, religious leaders and community leaders on different aspects of Peace, and so the campaign outing was second home coming. The work gave him deep knowledge of the people, their diversity and the governance issues in the zone. He promised to work towards entrenching peace and development if elected as Governor, which in turn will unite the people, bring development and make the zone and state stronger.
He said being someone who is passionate about the progress of the State, he is in the contest to bring to bear his wealth of experience in governance, peace, security and politics for the growth and development of the State.
According to him, the State is in a retrogressive state, hence the need to get credible hands on deck to restore its lost glory.
He added that the State is in dire need of a Leader with sound knowledge on how to tackle the insecurity bedevilling the state ranging from kidnapping, banditry, land grabbing, armed robbery and killings as well as bring to the fore practical ways to grow the economy to put the State on the path of prosperity and self sufficiency.
He disclosed that he is ready and willing to serve the State meticulously and unite the people.
The party delegates also commended Prof Best for his consistency in the PDP, noting that not only is he the oldest member of the PDP of all those aspiring to be Governor, but he has never left the Party before. They added that this is his second attempt to run, having attempted before in 2018, but he obeyed the Party and stepped aside when zoning did not favour his zone. They prayed that this time around his ambition will be actualised.
In all the Local Government Areas visited, those who spoke commended the aspirant for the roles he played in the development of the State as Secretary to the Government of the State during the Sen. Jonah Jang-led administration.
They expressed optimism that he will make a great Leader and continue from where Baba Jang stopped if elected Governor of the State.
Those who spoke at Wase LGA called on him to consider the reconstruction of the Wase-Langtang North Bridge which has gone bad making it hard for people to pass through. They also invited him to inspect the bridge and to make commitment to fix it when he wins. Subsequently, Prof. Best took time to inspect the bridge and promised timely intervention if given the mandate to serve the State.
Finally, the party officials called on Prof Best to carry the party along if he succeeds, and to continue talking with fellow aspirants for the peace and goodwill of the Party.
