At the end of a two-day retreat, which was held between Friday 14th and Saturday 15th May 2021 at the Miango Rest House, Bassa LGA, Plateau State, the Plateau Debate Group (PDG) unveiled its vision and mission. The retreat which had in attendance members of the Board, Secretariat and resource persons deliberated on key issues that bothered on a vision and mission, Core Values, Strategic Objectives, Structure of the PDG, Scope of Activities, Resource Mobilisation, as well as Guidelines and Ethics of its operations.
Vision: “A Society That Engenders Accountable Leadership”
Mission:” To provide a platform that promotes good governance through debate, monitoring and strategic engagement”.
Values: Fairness, Integrity, Accountability, Transparency and Service (FIATS)
Beyond the conduct of debates in the run-up to elections as witnessed in 2015 and 2019, which afforded candidates the opportunity of speaking about their plans for the people when elected, the PDG also recognizes the strategic role it will play in the governance process, with specific reference to tracking the promises that leaders made during campaigns and debates.
As a service-based organization created for the public good, the PDG reaffirms its commitment to working towards the emergence of leaders that are will commit themselves to people-centred governance that is built on the basis of accountability, trust and open communication.
The activities of the PDG will be structured around key thematic areas, which has to do with – Strategic partnerships, Governance tracking, Citizen engagement, Policy advocacy and Research.
