News reaching ViewPointNigeria suggests that a 44-year-old pastor, Baba-Yemisi Seyi, was on Monday arraigned in an Upper Area Court in Jos for allegedly having sexual intercourse with a minor. Baba-Yemisi Seyi who resides on Mugambus St., Gwandang in Bukuru area of Jos South LGA, appeared before Malam Mustapha Hassan on a one-count charge of having sex with a 10-year-old girl.

The police First Information Report (FIR) stated that the accused committed the offence on April 10, at about 4.00 p.m. The FIR said that, on the fateful day, at about 7.30 pm, one Grace Ifeanyi, came to the “B” Division police station, Bukuru, and reported that the accused had committed the offence.

It stated that the accused, who resides in the same compound with the victim, had canal knowledge of her. According to the FIR, the complainant informed the police that the accused raped the minor when she went to his room for a “fellowship” programme designed for children by him.

When the FIR was read to the accused, he pleaded not guilty to the charge and applied to the court for bail, saying the allegation against was baseless. The Police Prosecutor, Mr Ahmed Moyolope, objected to the bail application on the grounds that the matter was still under police investigation.

“My Lord, I am applying for a new date to enable me conclude investigation on the matter and also obtain a medical report from the hospital where the victim was treated. “We are objecting to the bail application by the accused as he may tamper with police investigation if his application is granted.” Hassan ordered the accused to be remanded in prison, and adjourned the case to May 10, for further mention.
