In its efforts to reduce the housing deficit in the Greater Jos Master Plan, the Plateau State Government and Mamak Nigeria Limited have gone into a Public Private Partnership, to build 3, 500 houses for its civil servants at the cost of N29, 312, 594,587.05 billion.
The contractual agreement was signed Tuesday, at the new Government House Rayfield, Jos, by the State’s Commissioner for Urban Development, Mr. Sylvanus Dongtoe; while Mr. Odia Femi Emeya and Prince DavidYilbel signed on behave of Mamak Nigeria Limited.
Speaking at the event, Mr. Dongtoe said, “This is another milestone in the administration of Dr. Jonah Jang. It is done in accordance with the 2011 National Housing Policy.
“One major challenge we are facing in Jos and environs is housing. Once this project is completed, it would be a lasting legacy.
“I strongly believe that the incoming administration will continue with this laudable project. In the next few years Jos would grow to be a mega city. He maintained.
The Commissioner said a lot of road projects have been embarked upon by the outgoing administration, the purpose is to decongest Jos city and open up its environs.
“This would go a long way in actualizing the Greater Jos Master Plan and would open up the city”.
Meanwhile, a Director with Mamak Nigeria Limited, Prince David Yilbel, assured that they would deliver on their mandate.
Yilbel said, “We are to build 3, 500 houses, out of which 1, 750 would be 3 bedroom flats and the remaining 1, 750 would be 2 bedroom flats.
“Out of that number 240 houses would be built in Rakifi in Bassa LGA, 2, 500 in Kwata and the remaining 760 houses would be built in Little Rayfield all in Jos South LGA of the State, at the cost of N29.3 billion.
“Government would contribute 30% of the fund, while benefitting Civil Servants would pay the remaining 70% in the course of 15 years, and the duration is 18 months.
“We will work together with the Ministry to ensure that this vision is actualized”. Yilbel further assured.
