The burial of a forest, the birth of a seed
Tributes and salutation
First, my sincere condolences to the families who lost members. Salutation to the Nigerian youth who saw reason to speak out even when it is not fashionable to do so, I never saw this coming, maybe not in my lifetime, but I was wrong and so was my teacher.
The apology from my teacher
As a student at the undergraduate level, it was a compulsory requirement that I pick a course title community organizing while offering the course, at first we started with a book titled: rules for Radicals, then Rules for revolution, fanon and paulo friere among many books subsequently Music of Bob Marley, Fela and Dube form part of the content my teacher indroduced us to,hence, Our teacher-prof Tor Iorpuu expected us to rise up immediately to do what he calls “taking your Destiney” or organizing our community towards action … many times our teacher will encourage us to look at our local problems and stand in the gap, I saw the disappointment in his face always…it’s like, we don’t see the future!!! or what he is seeing is not pushy.
reader, One day we protested against the management of the university and we almost lose our studentship. As students, that moment we understood part of our theory in class, we understood the pragmatic definition of administrative brutality yet our teacher is still not happy as if to say, we fail to practice what we learn.
Reader, let me cut the long story short because my teacher is now happy!!! He said my investment in the youth is not a waste, I have seen a generation that “can be the seed that will usher in a new light.” He apologizes while celebrating the courage and solidarity of the #Endsars# protest that started in Lagos and to other parts of our dear country, Nigeria.
While my teacher celebrates his years of service in youth development, I know many died and the struggle is but, a prologue which preceding scenes are subject of suspense govern by the aesthetics elements of a good story. I choose to theorize my teacher’s happiness and the #ensars# Protest
Congratulations to all the protesters for understanding that in Nigeria, leaders at whatever level can be corrupt hence, the protest claims not to appoint, elect, elect or propose any leadership because most of our structured leaders of youths have failed us over and over again, well done, good strategy.
Ultimately the spontaneous method will remain a shock to ruling class, if one leader show himself, the Nigerian ruling class would have shown the leadership how they treat rascals that want to put “sand for their Garri” because not long ago when Omoyele Sowore showed himself as the leader of rascals, the humbled him with a reasonable charge. However, for how long can we sustain this new/old method?
While the ruling class is yet to meet because of the roadblocks and fear of the unknown, the protester should understand that is not yet Uhuru!… the #endsars protest that started as a movement against police brutality now represents a course in a variety of dimension, the #endsars now stand against the brutality of government policies which does not encourage infrastructural development (Endbadgovernance#), the movement also stands against the outrageous and high cost of governance in Nigeria, it represents the movement against all forms of brutality in the civil service, public service, classroom churches and even in the family. Again, the movement represents the voice of resistance against all forms of oppression.
While I expand the scope of the #Endsars# believing that my optimism will translate to my wish, the protester must not stop protesting because history reminds us all that freedom was never given even in free town, hence, the call to metamorphose from street protest to building a strong movement is now, with this new value system, encourage others not to patronize the street for the period of the judicial committee on police brutality and other related killings, let the protester in solidarity again write and even appear before the panel, let the protester also create and demand that activities of the panel be open and process cleared for public consumption, one technology to achieve that is the use of social media not conventional Radio or the terrestrial television. The protester must never allow the solidarity to dissolve, use the solidarity and participate actively in advocacy and always demand good governance like #fixtheroads# and others that might be a function of governance.
The protester must also remember that he is also a potential SARS#, hence, protect your value system and don’t leave beyond your income hence you become corrupt and brutal like the #Sars you fought.
Make sure all have a registered voters card and insist that anybody that wants the support of the protester must debate and presents attainable manifesto that in no distant time after the election the protester will use to hold him/her accountable. From where I stand I can see the movement of the #endSars# to #Nosir#, a time where no youth will patronize a godfather only for crumbs but to demand the #endsars#, a time where when tokenism in cash will meet the answer #No SIR! just create the jobs and schools, that situation will not have “self-acclaimed comrades” that will answer yes to the oppressors and increase the hardship and brutality of SARS but the situation of NO SIR! Please give us good governance
