President Muhammadu Buhari has expressed shock at the number of lives lost to the heavy floods that submerged thousands of hectares of farmlands and houses in the affected communities in Kebbi State.
President Buhari in a statement issued by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, noted that Kebbi State is the focal point of his administration’s policy in locally produced rice.
The President, while sympathising with the bereaved families and farmers affected by the devastating floods, assured that the federal government will support the Kebbi State government in order to bring relief to the victims of the ravaging flood.
He also expressed worry that the news is coming at a time when farmers and other Nigerians are looking forward to a bumper harvest this year in order to reduce the current astronomical rise in the costs of food items in the markets.
Meanwhile, six lives have been lost so far as a result of the flood disaster in Kebbi State.
