THE CHAIRMAN MIKANG LOCAL GOVERNMENT COUNCIL AND THE ALGON CHAIRMAN PLATEAU STATE CHAPTER HON EZEKIEL P. VUELGAP ON PRTVC (GOOD MORNING PLATEAU) TODAY 10TH AUGUST, 2020.

The leader of the “Continuity and Accountability” and honourable Chairman of Mikang Local Government Council who doubles as ALGON Chairman, Plateau State chapter, Hon. Ezekiel Pabuet Vuelgap ealier today outlined some of the council’s achievements, challenges and expectations under his able leadship on Peace 90.5 audience participatory program, “Good Morning Plateau” as follows:

ACHIEVEMENTS:

My achievements includes

  1. 200 solar Street light across the Local Government.
  2. Furnishing 10 housing unit at Tunkus Open Market. Building of Warehouse in Garkawa.
  3. Renovation and Furnishing of Mikang Legislative chambers.
  4. Construction of Mini Stadium to facilitate employment and self reliance of youths in the LGA.
5.On Agriculture: Provision of fertilizer, herbicides, tractors, and liaising with institutions in provision of improved seeds.
“My apology for delay in provision of fertilizer across the 17 local government for this farming year which you all know that it’s as a result of challenges that comes with the global dreaded Covid-19 pandemic.”
  5. On Culture and Tradition:
Push for a Bill on Reform and Traditional Council Enhancement. “The Bill which seeks to ensure the institution is taken seriously with high level of independence ;like certainty in their financial dealings and entitlements, putting into archive and record the method of selection of traditional rulers to mitigate disagreement and crises that has been arising from the selection method due to lack of recorded templates”.
  6. On Covid 19:
-Setting up a committee in line with directives of the Governor,
-Awareness in both English and Local dialects.
  7. Provision and replacement of Transformers in Garkawa being the only district connected to electricity.
  8. On going construction of a storey building complex in the local government Secretariat to accord various offices.

CHALLENGES IN ART OF GOVERNANCE AND GENERATIONS OF FUNDS:

Amongst the challenges I encounter includes.

  1. Corruption.
  2. Leakage in Tax. Collection e.g lack of receipts, lack of security etc.
  3. Reliance on Federal government allocation.

Mechanisms put in place to curb the challenges I came across includes;
-Putting in place a task force to assist in collection especially regarding deviants who usually revolt in paying tax.
-opening new and expansion of markets within the LGA and Fencing to ensure one way in and one way out to promote collections of tax.
Relocation of Market due to congestion and lack of space.
Which have improved generation of funds within the LGA with 300,000 – 500,000 naira as against what was attained.

For Hon. Ezekiel P Vuelgap, Chairman Mikang LGC.

God Bless Mikang LGA.
God Bless Plateau State.
God Bless Nigeria.
