As the fall-out from the arrest of Hon. Emmanuel Zopmal continues to generate debate, Hon. Yusuf Gagdi has indicated that the only way Hon. Emmanuel Zopmal will regain his freedom is if he apologizes publicly and retracts all the criminal accusations he made against his person. Failure to do so, Hon Gagdi said “then he will face the full wrath of the law”.
In an online exchange seen by our reporter, Hon Gagdi said “for the last 6 years, Emmanuel Zopmal has been insulting me and nobody said anything. He has called me all sorts of names and I didn’t respond. But on this occasion he crossed the line when he insulted my father and accused me of duping someone. If I don’t do this, the same people talking here asking me to release him, will be the people who will use that against me tomorrow and maybe against my children. Two things Emma must do before he is released. He must publicly apologize and retract the criminal accusations or we face the law”
At 10:00 Am this morning our associate reporter was already at the CID office in Abuja and was meeting with Emmanuel Zopmal in detention to understand his well-being –and we shall report a little later on that.
Yesterday, we reported that Emmanuel Zopmal was arrested by security operative in the early hours of Monday 6th July at his residence in Jos on the instructions of Rt. Hon Yusuf Gagdi and he was whisked to the CID unit in Abuja where he is currently being held prior to being charged to court
Recall that Hon. Emmanuel Zopmal contested for the same PKK seat of House of Representatives with Hon Gagdi in the 2019 elections under the banner of SDP. He was said to have in several online groups maligned the character of Hon. Gagdi, calling him a dupe, a criminal with aspersions cast on his father.
Several observers have cautioned that being open to criticism comes with the job of being a public servant and have continued to encourage Hon. Gagdi to release him unconditionally. Notable in the calls for the release of Hon. Emmanuel Zopmal are: Comrade Manji Dachom, Amb Dewan, Hon. Stanley Kavwam (past SDP aspirant for the Mangu-Bokkos House of Reps seat in the 2019 election), Rinkat Oswald, Walshak Barminas, David Yibel and the erstwhile member who represented PKK in the last election under the banner of PDP, Hon. Timothy Golu.
