Thursday 21st March 2013 – The Governor of Plateau State Da Jonah Jang has requested the Defence Head Quarters to closely monitor activities of the Special Task Force in Plateau State to ensure that the operate within established rules of engagement.
Represented by his Deputy, Mr. Ignatius Longjan, he made the request in Jos when a delegation from the Defence Head Quarters led by Commodore Yusuf Hela paid him a courtesy visit.
Making his comments, he said ”The STF men must strive to operate by the rules of its engagement. This is very necessary to erode the public skepticisms on their operations of late. The peace enjoyed in the state has been punctured lately and there appears to be more complaints against some STF personnel,”.
Speaking further, Mr. Longjan pointed out that for efficient policing and peace to be achieved, mutual confidence and respect had to be rife between the two parties, he therefore advised the Defence Headquarters to strive to strengthen that mutual confidence within the communities.
Earlier, Hela had said that the team was in Plateau to commend the STF and to encourage it to do more toward a peaceful Plateau.

”The essence of this visit is to promote a healthy relation between the civilians and the military in the state,” he said, and commended the Plateau Government’s support for the peace process.
In a separate development, the Chairman of Riyom Local Government Council, Hon. Sam Audu, has called for the withdrawal men of the STF from the area. He averred that some of the security officers had ‘not been very patriotic in the discharge of their duties and called for their immediate re-deployment from the state.
