Plateau State has concluded plans to commence a project that will generate 2,000 megawatts of electricity from hydro power. The Management Committee Chairman of Bokkos LGA, Mr Zakka Akos stated that the State Government signed an agreement with a Ukrainian company to build two of the stations in Bokkos Local Government Area of the State.

He stated that two sites located in Kamwai and Horon have been surveyed for the project while adding that the officials from the company have taken samples for testing before the commencement of work. Story-Alyans Construction Company from Ukraine signed a memorandum of understanding with the Plateau State Government last April for the project while the Local Government signed an agreement to provide the project sites and area where headquarters, staff quarters and other structures will be built.

Akos said that the Ukrainian company will build and run the station before handing it over to the State. The Management committee Chairman said that a considerable amount of the electricity generated will be injected into the national grid as the State cannot consume all.
