It is said and I quote, “the denial of a right is an invitation to fight for it “. It will be recalled that the management of the University of Jos made an announcement early hours of Friday 13th February 2015 as regards the resolution reached by a panel of inquiry that was setup to investigate the hitherto demonstration by the students of the school.
In the resolutions reached by the management and the panel, they faulted and accused the union leaders for externalising their problems and not following due process of calling for a protest. And as such, they pronounced that the union members remain suspended for five months. Further more, they averred that the Exco stand suspended for three months, which means they will not seat for exams and a caretaker committee will be put in place to pilot the affairs of the union.

Furthermore, the University Authority has resolved that due to the damages caused during the protest, each student will pay a compulsory amount of 12 thousand Naira and present an affidavit of good conduct before being allowed to sit the exams slated to commence from 23rd of February.
OUR STAND – We stand by the resolution reached at the joint meeting of the forum of SUG presidents, stake holders and the leadership of the joint campus committee. We first of all tagged the management’s claims as frivolous and as an attempt to take advantage of this unfortunate situation to victimize and loot innocent Nigerian students. We see it as a needless move by the management to render the students voiceless and to deliberately make the union inactive. Sequel to that, we encourage the students to remain calm and law abiding as the National Executive Committee of NANS is looking deeply into the matter and shall communicate a unitised position shortly.
