Following a pre-dawn attack in Shurun village of Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau state by unknown gunmen alleged to be Fulani herdsmen, there is tension and pandemonium in the village, as scores of persons have been injured and over 30 houses burnt down.

Shurun is a border village between Barkin Ladi and Mangu local government area of the state.

Following a pre-dawn attack in Shurun village of Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau state by unknown gunmen alleged to be Fulani herdsmen, there is tension and pandemonium in the village, as scores of persons have been injured and over 30 houses burnt down.

Viewpointnigeria gathered that the attackers stormed the village late Thursday night and started shooting sporadically. The development created tension, and panic there by forcing villagers to flee to Dorowa, a neighbouring village in the LGA.

An eyewitness who does not want his name in print told ViewpointNigeria that the gunmen stormed the village when the villagers were about to go to bed and started shooting.

“On hearing the gunshots, the villagers woke up and started fleeing and that made us to escape, our attackers had a field day as the operation lasted till the early hours of this morning.

He said barns and farm produce were also destroyed by the attackers. The source lamented the attacks and called on the state government to come to the aid of the People.

“It is quite worrisome that the gunmen have been identified as the Fulani herdsmen that are living within our communities. He lamented.

“They carry out these deadly attacks and go back to their huts unharmed. “The heavy arms our attackers use goes to show that there is a well-coordinated plan to eliminate us. He further lamented.

However, the Plateau Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abu Emmanuel said, he is aware of the incident, but is yet to get full details of the attack from the Divisional Police Office in the locality.

It would be recalled that three persons were killed in Kantoma village of Mangu Local Government Area of the State by unknown gunmen. The gunmen who attacked the community in the wee hours of Wednesday were armed with sophisticated weapons.
