Information reaching our news desk indicates that the Plateau State commissioner for information and communication, Hon Mohammed Abubakar Badu has faulted media reports credited to him, which suggests that Governor Jonah Jang has appointed his son, Yakubu as commissioner of Lands, Survey and Town Planning.
Mohammed Badu in a press statement signed and issued in Jos yesterday, dismissed the reports credited to him, as “malicious and erroneous”. He said what was credited to him, was actually a misrepresentation of facts and that he was entirely misquoted – he said “what happened at the last state executive council meeting was that the Special adviser on special duties, Mr. Yakubu Jang was asked to oversee affairs of the Ministry of Lands and Survey” and was not nominated as its substantive commissioner”. “It is as simple and straight forward as that”, the commissioner said, noting that it is surprising that some media houses reported the matter out of context.

Speaking further, Abubakar Badu averred that, the said state executive council meeting for which Yakubu Jang was mandated to oversee activities of the Ministry was the first at the new Government House at Little Rayfield. He said several principal members of the state were there available and that several other sundry issues were covered, including the approval of several contracts for
• Additional building and construction works at the new Government House Little Rayfield
• Completion of rural electrification works at Binchima, Zagum, Rafin Bama, Kpachidu communities.
• Contract for additional works at the state cassava processing factory which is to include supply of three different machines at the cost of N59.8million.
• Additional work on the office complex of the Board of Internal Revenue along Bank road.
• Procurement of ICT facilities for the new Government House at the cost of 78.8million naira.
• Reclamation of two gully erosion sites at Gold and Base at the cost of 23.6m naira and 390.8m.
• Construction of road with culverts and drainages for the Dialogue, Reconciliation and Peace Centre, Kwang at the cost of 2.4m naira (which would be executed through direct labour).
Given that these contracts were only awarded in the past few months and may not be completed before the start of the new administration, ViewPointNigeria is already swinging into action in Jos to identify the respective contractors for these projects in order to assess the scope of work, extent of completeness, timeline of delivery and overall benefits to communities/state and shall report about these shortly.
