Following earlier reports about the appointment of Yakubu Jang as the new Commissioner of Urban and Regional Planning to replace Yilji Gomwalk (running mate to Senator GNS Pwajok) – ViewPointNigeria got in touch with the office of the Governor in order to understand the rationale and thought process behind such an appointment.

In discussion with key Government sources this morning, they denied such insinuations, saying that the entire idea was the fabrication of politicians who were hell bent on pulling the government down by casting it as an ethnic and nepotic enterprise. They said the Commissioner for Information, Mohammed Abubakar who was earlier said to have held a press conference about the matter has come out to say that he never made such statements and that initial reportage of the story was erroneous and malicious.

Following earlier reports about the appointment of Yakubu Jang as the new Commissioner of Urban and Regional Planning to replace Yilji Gomwalk (running mate to Senator GNS Pwajok) – ViewPointNigeria got in touch with the office of the Governor in order to understand the rationale and thought process behind such an appointment given how heated the polity already is in terms of the accusation of ethnic jingoism etc.

In discussion with key Government sources this morning, they denied such insinuations, saying that the entire idea was the fabrication of people who were hell bent on pulling the government down by casting it as an ethnic and nepotic enterprise. They said the Commissioner for Information, Mohammed Abubakar who was earlier said to have held a press conference about the matter was misquoted and that he has come out to say that his statements were taken out of context.

Speaking further, the Governor’s aide said, no such appointments were made and that Yakubu Jang remains the Special adviser to the Governor on Special Duties and that his responsibilities have not changed.

However, independent Investigations by ViewPointNigeria however, suggests that Yakubu has been asked to oversee the activities of the Ministry (as its interim head), since its substansive Commissioner Mr. Yilji Gomwalk was nominated as the running mate to GNS Pwajok. His oversight of this ministry may be ahead of the appointment of a substansive commissioner who would be at the helm of affairs before May 29th 2015 – the official handover date.

An official of the Ministry of Lands and Survey who spoke to ViewPointNigeria, confirmed that all heads of the ministry have been asked to report to Yakubu  Jang in the interim, pending the appointment of a substansive commissioner.

Several people in the Ministry have questioned the rationale of the appointment, wondering why the Permanent Secretary of the ministry was not mandated to hold sway pending the appointment of the Commissioner.
