Nigerians may not have the opportunity to watch the 2013 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) televised live as negotiations between the Broadcasting organisation of Nigeria (BON) and JCM-African Sports Consulting hit a brick wall. BON accused the agent of Confederation of Africa (CAF) of conspiracy during the negotiations for the rights to televise the tournament live.

Chairman of BON Abubakar Jijiwa called on the Federal Government of Nigerian to intervene in the matter. He further said that $1.2 million was offered to JCM but they rejected the offer which made BON to make an increase to $1.5 million which was also rejected. BON then made a suggestion to be allowed to air the matches involving the Super Eagles of Nigeria, Opening and Closing ceremonies, quarter-finals, semi-finals and final matches for $300,000 which was also turned down. Jijiwa said it was unacceptable for CAF’s consulting firm to think it could exploit Nigeria.

The tournament kicked off on Saturday with the host nation South Africa playing Cape Verde in the opening match that ended goalless while the second game involving Angola and Morocco also ended goalless. Nigerian’s Super Eagle will play its first game on Monday against the Stallions of Burkina Faso.
