The police in Plateau organised a stakeholders meeting to look into communal and ethnic clashes that happens intermittently in the state. The meeting which was in furtherance of the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Suleiman Abba commitment in resolving communal crisis across the country was set up to dialogue and conduct awareness programme for a peaceful coexistence.

The stakeholders made up of herdsmen, religious, traditional and youth leaders identified land dispute, chieftaincy issues and cattle theft as the major reason for conflict occurrence while acknowledging that suspicion amongst different ethnic and religious also plays a role.

Chief Joseph Dasheloyi, who is the Galadiman Langtang said that the major cause of communal clash is associated with land dispute and chieftaincy tussle. He added that if these issues are resolved then other differences can easily be solved.

The Chairman of the Police Committee, Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIGP) in charge of Zone 8, Mr Christopher Dega stated that the IGP set up the committee because he was worried about the continuous breakdown of law and order across the country.
