THE Plateau Youth Patriotic Front has drawn the attention of the Commissioner of Police in Plateau State to alleged inciting statements by Prof. Dakum Shown (a Former PDP state Chairman) who is said to have constituted a group known as the ‘PDP Equity and Justice Forum,’ made up of some individuals said to be elders of the PDP in the state.

Shown’s group, is said to have expressed one form of dissatisfaction or another with the processes leading to the emergence of candidates for the 2015 general elections.

A statement yesterday by the Plateau Youth Patriotic Front’s spokesman, Hon. Leo Sage Demsak, said, “As much as the Forum has the right to agree with the party on any matter, we are concerned because the group is taking it personal to the extent that the polity is being unnecessarily overheated. We have noticed that the group, through its leader, has poured out all kinds of vituperations on the person of the governor and the government of Plateau State, which he not too long ago, was part of. However, our concern is not with that, for if the government cannot defend itself that is its problem. Our concern is with the fact that Prof. Shown and his group have continually used words that are capable of inciting violence.”

According to Demsak, “We are aware that they had approached the Federal High Court in Jos but the matter was thrown out because it is a pre-election issue and should be handled by the political party concerned. We believe it is the frustration that has made them resort to using any other means at their disposal to incite violence and further cause disunity amongst the peace loving people of Plateau State.

“We believe the protests we are beginning to see will metamorphose into full-fledged violence if the likes of Prof. Shown who are tacitly fanning the embers of disunity by use of inciting words are not called to order. The zoning or otherwise of elective offices is a matter for the political parties, to bring the issue to the public domain with such zest as to portray it to be an issue of policy or programme of government is a deliberate attempt to create disenchantment with the government and in so doing pit the people against the government.”
