The winner of the 2017 Big BrotherNaija Efe Ejeba has call on Nigerians to contribute towards alleviate the suffering of Children who are in dear need of heart surgeries.

Ejeba stated this yesterday at the Jos University Teaching Hospital (JUTH) where he visited four children diagnosed with different heart disease who had gone successfully open and closed heart surgeries.

He solicits the Support of wealthy Nigerians to come to the aid of children suffering with heart diseases and other related issues

According to him the aim of his visit to Jos was to create awareness on the need to save children with individuals contributions of one thousand naira each towards raising one billion to conduct free medical and surgical operations to children suffering with heart diseases,eye problem and other related in Nigeria.

ViewpointNigeria reports that JUTH had on Friday carried out operation of four children successfully in collaboration with Hospitals for Humanity, an American based NGO.

“Iam the fund raising ambassador for Hospitals for Humanity, the project was aimed at raising one billion Naira, having individuals donating atleast one thousand naira to aid Hospitals conduct free surgeries for children with heart conditions from Nigeria.

” Iam here to visit Jos University Teaching Hospital to witness the progress of the surgeries and to show solidarity and seek for more support for the children.

Efe describe the Jos University teaching hospital as a great institution, saying more so located in Jos where good things comes from, academics, music, sports and hospitality amongst others.

“I was actually motivated to be part of the Project and more so that the operation started in Jos where I had my foundation to become who iam, jos is part of me and my foundation of life”.

He call on more Nigerians to contribute towards alleviating the sufferings of Nigerian children who couldn’t afford to travel for the surgery abroad.

The Chief Medical Director (CMD) of JUTH,Prof. Edmund Banwat disclosed that the Hospital in collaboration with Hospitals for Humanity, an American based NGO

had performed such a high profile surgery for the first time in its existence and the first to be performed in Northern Nigeria.

“With the help of Hospitals for Humanity, we have successfully carried out cardiac operations on four of our patients with heart diseases, This feat is really great and we make bold to say that anything is medically possible in JUTH.

“This is the first time we are performing such a complicated operation, but with this four successful cases, we have achieved a milestone.

“This feat has perfectly fallen into our strategic plan of taking this hospital to a greater height,” he said.

The CMD added that knowledge and skills gained from the experience would enormously benefit the hospital and even the families of the victims.

“With these operations, JUTH have been placed on the map of centres that carry out cardiac operations because there is huge transfer of technology and skills.

“Our medical personnel have learnt a lot from the entire process and it will aid us to do more in the realm of medical services in Nigeria,” Banwat said.

He promised that the hospital would ensure knowledge and skills gained by its doctors and nurses are sustained.

He commended the winner of the big brother Naija Efe Ejeba and the Plateau Government for its support at ensuring that surgeries were carried out with little or no hitches.

Earlier Chief Executive Officer (COE) of the NGO, Dr Segun Ajayi, noted that heart diseases remains complex cases in the medical profession, hence the need to tackle it from the early stage.

He explained that the patients operated upon were below the ages of 10, and were recuperating very fast, with no complications.

“Open and closed heart surgeries are very challenging operations, but thank God it is successful and the patients are doing very well,”.

Also Speaking the Executive Strategist Hospitals for humanities Eze Adavai said they came to conduct open heart surgeries on children with heart diseases which is done at Jos university teaching hospital.

She said the programs is aimed at carrying out surgery’s on Nigerian children for free at no cost

Our correspondent gather that out of 11 patients children four were satisfied for the successful operation while the remaining seven who’s conditions are not critical are still at observation list.
