A socio-political group, Plateau Youth Vanguard, has urged the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to re-conduct voters’ registration in 527 Polling Units of Plateau State.

The Plateau Youth Vanguard made the appeal on Sunday in a press release saying the voters registration was incomplete and did not hold in 527 Polling Units in Plateau State.

According to the group, INEC omitted the polling unit of Governor Jang from the exercise.

The Chairman of the group, Joel Jonathan, also appealed to INEC for an extension of the exercise.

The group claimed that the six days earlier fixed will not be enough for people in the affected 527 polling units to register.
“No single person was captured during the 2011 voters’ registration in the governor’s Polling Unit, Ladura II in Du, Jos South Local Government Area of the State.”

The group urged the commission to take proactive measure to ensure that people in the affected areas are not denied their civic responsibility.
He stressed that “in the Northern Senatorial zone, the affected areas in Jos South Local Government Areas includes, Du, Bukuru, Giring, Gyel ‘A’ and ‘B’, Kuru ‘A’ and ‘B’, shen, Vwang, and Zawan ‘A’ and ‘B’ with 118 affected Polling Units, while in Jos North LGA, Jenta Adamu, Jos Jarawa, Naruguta ‘A’ and ‘B’ and Vanderpuye were left out with 162 Polling Units.”

Mr. Joel expressed disappointment in the 2011 voters’ registration and challenged INEC to live up to its constitutional responsibility, saying the most affected local government areas are Jos South, Jos North, Qua’anpan and Langtang South Local Government Areas.
The group said that in Plateau Central Senatorial District”, 12 polling units were affected in Kanam LG.

Mr. Joel said that in Plateau South Senatorial District, 128 polling Units were affected while Langtang South local government had incomplete registration in 64 Polling Units.

Reacting to the allegations, the Deputy Director, Voter Education and Publicity of INEC in Plateau State, Osaretin Imahiyereobo, asked residents to be patient, saying the the commission will conduct fresh registration in the affected areas.

Mr. Imahiyereobo said that “those affected will be duly briefed by the Electoral Officers before the commencement of the exercise slated for between 12 and 17 November”.
