Workers of Jos North Local Government in Plateau have appealed to the state government to pay the three years arrears of leave grant and transport allowances owed them.
Mr Yakubu Dung, Chairman of the area’s chapter of the National Union of Local government Employees (NULGE), made the appeal on their behalf on Wednesday in Jos.
Dung, in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), urged the state government to “sympathise with the workers and pay the entitlements to ameliorate their pains”.
He urged Gov. Simon Lalong to step into the matter and “address the issue once and for all”.
“The state government has commenced the payment of the 2014 transport and leave arrears; we appreciate such kindness but want the governor to remember those of 2015, 2016 and 2017,” he said.
Dung commended Lalong for “being kind enough to settle arrears of entitlements”, but urged him to pay everything owed the workers to boost their morale.
