Following the killings in Miango district of Bassa LGA last week (during the visit of President Buhari to Jos), the Irigwe community has decided to stage a protest to draw the attention of the nation to the daily killings.

Starting at the old JUTH Mortuary where most of the dead bodies are lodged, the group planned to take the dead and parade them through streets in Jos as a means of drawing the attention of the world to what is happening.

As events were unfolding, a truck load of Irigwe natives who left Miango to attend the protest at the mortuary were stopped by soldiers and partly detained/prevented from attending. However, our reporter subsequently confirmed that they were released and allowed to join others at the mortuary.

At the time of filing this report, soldier were already deployed to the mortuary with armoured tanks and riot gear.

The speaker of the house of assembly, Hon Peter Azi was sighted at the mortuary too.

On a separate note, as the Irigwe community  planned the protest for the dead who were hitherto killed last week, yesterday night –another attack was launched killing 23 people. This is another unfortunate development in happenings in the region.
