News reaching ViewPointNigeria indicates that the Plateau State House of Assembly has abandoned its earlier probe of the Plateau State Government over allegations of financial impropriety, as initiated by a petition filed by a group termed the Plateau Patriotic Front (PPF) on May 15th 2014.

It would be recalled that the group (PPF) had filed the petition to the leadership of the House under anonymous and controversial circumstances, prompting its members to set up a committee to investigate the allegations. However, several rejoinders and conter-petitions were filled by other interest groups including a group called G17, promipting the leadership to reconsider its stance.

Speaking with journalist in Jos yesterday, the Assembly’s Majority Leader, Daniel Dem, said the House had not abandoned the investigation as speculated in some quarters. Daniel Dem, who represents Riyom constituency, said: “As a House, we are clear of our obligations to our citizens. It is not a case of abandonment. But since the committee was set up, nobody has stepped up to own up to the petition or prove the allegations. We cannot waste our time on frivolous allegations that are anonymous”

Further speaking on the house’s responsibilities to the public, the Lawmaker cautioned those castigating members on the issue to desist from doing so, saying the cordial relationship between the legislature and the executive is for the good and development of the state and should not be misconstrued as being weak or too agreeable with the executive.

In a separate development, an APC chieftain and Gubernatorial aspirant in Plateau state, Mr Solomon Dalung has made a passionate plea to the House of Assembly to recommence investigative proceedings against the state Government as regards the said allegations. Dalung in discussion with news men, said “the noble House of Assembly must become alive to its responsibility of being the custodians of the mandate given to them by the people. Weighty allegations as made against the Plateau State Government must and should be fully investigated so that Plateau people can get closure on whether these allegations are spurious or not”.
