Information reaching us has indicated that Senator Gyang Nyam Shom Pwajok, who represents Plateau North at the National Assembly, plans to launch a book chronicling the life of one of the leading champions in the struggle for Middle Belt autonomy, Da Moses Rwang Kanang.
Speaking to journalists, the Media Officer to the Senator, Chuwang Dung, said arrangements are already advanced for the launch of the book titled “Moses of the Middle Belt.” He stated that a committee has been set-up under the chairmanship of Simon Mwadkon, the Member representing Riyom/Barkin Ladi Federal Constituency to make arrangements for the public presentation of the book that will no doubt find a place on the bookshelves as a record of history and an inspirational book.
“Moses of the Middlebelt” tells the eventful life of Da Moses Rwang Kanang, who served in the West Africa Frontier Force before becoming a Member of the Northern Region House of Assembly,” said Dung.
Dung said the book, which contains ten chapters captured the early life of Da Rwang Kanang from Rikkos in Jos Plateau State, his humble beginnings, his work as a world war veteran and submissions as a Member of the Northern Region House of Assembly.
He said the book also addressed the place of Kanang as a fighter for justice and equal rights.
“This book tells what politicians will omit and what writers on the Middle Belt often try to deny with regards to the foundation of the Middle Belt struggle.
“It offers an insight into the thinking of this leading figure in the struggle for social change and invites all of us to light a candle and walk down the hallowed hall of political history, where it is recorded, among others, the imperishable story of this man. His character forged like steel in the hot flames of personal adversity, armed with a courage and stamina to achieve greatness.”
Kanang, who was born in 1914, the year of the amalgamation of Northern and Southern Nigeria, died in 2007.
