The Executive Director DUNCAN Group of Companies Mr. Bawa Larry Peters at the weekend said that the Jos inland container deport on completion would provide employment for about 5 000 persons.
Peter’s made this known , in Jos in an interview after conducting Journalists round the Jos Inland dry Port. He said the project has reached 70 percent completion stage, and commended the Minister of transport Hon. Rotimi Ameachi for being in the forefront of pushing for its speedy completion.
It could be recall that Duncan Container Dry Port Limited, located at Heipang, in Barkin Ladi LGC of Plateau state was given a presidential approval for the construction of Jos International Inland Container Depot.
He also appealed to the Northern business men to have confidence in the project as when completed will save exporters from the zone the cost of travelling to sea port to clear their goods and then create over 5000 jobs., the host communities will benefit while the state government will generate huge revenue as a result of activities within the terminal.
Our correspondent recalled that President Muhammadu Buhari had early this month inaugurated the much talked about inland container deport (ICD) in Kaduna otherwise known as the Kaduna Inland Dry Port. Speaking during the inspection of work at the Jos ICD site, the group executive director said its cover over 33,000 hectare of land adding that with the inauguration of Kaduna inland container terminal by Mr. President, work has also commenced at the Jos site in the last Five weeks and progress to the level of completion is being made.
According to him, during the commissioning of Kaduna terminal Mr. President mentioned that in the next few weeks another ICD will be inaugurated stressing that they do not know which of the ICD is next.
In his words, ” In the next couple of weeks we are meeting with the Plateau state government on how to fast track the project forward. The inauguration of Kaduna terminal has motivates the Plateau state government to do everything possible at her disposal to ensure its completion.’
Peters called on the Federal and Plateau state government to ensure the construction of railway to the terminal, road, electricity that will link the container depot saying already offices for banks, clearing agents, fire service bay, port police post are almost completed.
The Heipang ICD would serve many states in the North Central zone and some other parts of the North East. Its economic benefits in Plateau State are many. Apart from generating revenue for the state and creating employment for its teeming indigenous communities, it would have served as a commercial centre of the state as well as given the state a new lease of life.
He also commended the Plateau State governor Simon Lalong for the support, he gave the project.
