Akun said that he would be striving to obtain the PDP ticket during the party primary election and that he was capable of continuing with the developmental efforts of the incumbent Governor Jonah Jang. He added that there had been no zoning of the governorship position in the state since 1979.

He said “everyone from all parts of the state has the right to aspire and this is a constitutional guarantee, there has never been a meeting in which the three zones have discussed and agreed to anything on the zoning.”
