The crisis rocking Plateau State chapter of the People’s Democratic Party has deepened as four members of the State Working Committee of the party have dragged the leadership of the party and the State Working Committee to Plateau State High Court over the move to forcefully ask them to vacate their respective offices for expressing their intentions to contest for an elective office in 2015 general elections.

Parts of the reliefs being sought for by the Plaintiffs, Hon. Musa Auta Dauda, Mr. Michael Anweri and Hon. Peter Shypsuk, was the declaration that it was illegal, unlawful and unconstitutional for the defendants to require them or other members of Plateau State Executive Committee to vacate or forfeit their offices because they have expressed their intention to contest an elective office in the 2015 general election.

The plaintiffs are also seeking perpetual injunction restraining the defendants by themselves, agents, Stafford privies whatsoever from demanding the resignation of the plaintiffs or any other members of the Plateau State Executives Committee of the 1st defendant or any other manner interfering with their functions as members of the Plateau State Executive Committee of the 1st defendant.

The defendants in the suit are the Peoples Democratic Party, Dr. Haruna Dabin and Plateau State Working Committee of the People’s Democratic party.

It would be recalled that aspiration of State Chairman of the party Dr. Haruna Dabin has been generating ripples within the party following the stand of some state working committee of the party asking the chairman to vacate his seat since he declared his intention to run for 2015 election.

It was gathered that when the embattled Chairman summoned a meeting of the party’s state executive committee meeting on Wednesday this week at the party’s secretariat in Jos, four members of the State Working Committee of PDP staged a walk out during the meeting of the committee on the premise that the chairman cannot preside over the meeting as the chairman had declared his intention to contest 2015 election.

The Plateau state Peoples democratic Party has denied media reports that the state working committee of the party has directed the party Chairman Dr. Haruna Dabin to resign as the chairman of the party since he has interest to contest 2015 governorship race in the state.

State Publicity Secretary of the Party Peter Shyepsuk in a statement made available to journalist on this burning matter, said his attention has been drawn to a write up in a National daily in which it was stated that the leadership of the party asked its Chairman , Dr. Haruna Dabin to resign over his governorship ambition

The statement reads in Parts ” let it be stated clearly that the leadership of the party did not at any point ask the chairman , Dr Haruna Dabin to resign its appointment .
” What actually happened was that at the commencement of the working committee meeting, a member challenged the Chairman who was presiding over the meeting to step aside having made his intention to contest the 2015 governorship elections to which the Dr. Dabin replied that there was nowhere in the Party’s constitution that bars an EXC0 of the party from contesting any position.
