A former governor of Plateau State, Jonah Jang, has called on his successor and incumbent governor, Simon Lalong, to suspend his foreign trips and work to tackle the growing insecurity in the state.

Jang, representing Plateau North in the Senate, was reacting to the Tuesday’s shooting of nine persons at Rim Diyan community junction in the Riyom Local Government Area of the state.

The ex-governor, in a statement by his media consultant, Clinton Garuba, described the killing as a “wicked act in these precarious times.”

He demanded that the Federal Government should organise a national conference to discuss the attacks on farmers by herdsmen, who he said “are now arguably more deadly than Boko Haram.”

Jang also joined the agitation for the banning of open grazing by cattle rearers, saying it had been responsible for the crisis between herdsmen and indigenes.

He expressed optimism that “one day, the merchants of evil, who are terrorising the Middle Belt and other parts of the country, will be brought to justice.”
