Plateau State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) has sacked 77 teachers with fake Nigerian Certificate in Education (NCE) teaching in various government primary schools in the state as it begins biometric exercise.

State Chairperson of SUBEB, Ngo Lyop Gloria Mang disclosed this in Jos and stated that the board discovered the fake teachers through proper investigation and verification of their certificates at various Colleges of Education that the affected teachers claimed to have attended and obtained their certificate. She added that the required qualification for teaching in primary schools is NCE certificate and that any teacher without genuine certificate will not be accepted in the state teaching force.

Mang said that the teaching profession is not a collection of quacks and that the board will not accept quacks in its system. “We will not employ quacks and put them in the profession, because we want quality and qualified teachers and this government will not in any way tolerate them. Those teachers who do not have the requisite qualifications will be shown the way out of the profession”, she said.

She said that the teachers were given five years in which to acquire relevant certificates in Education but they refused to do so. She said “For us in the board, the best thing to do in order to bring sanity to the system is to show them the way out.”

Majority of the sacked teachers were discovered to be having diploma certificates that are not in education but in different disciplines.
