News reaching the ViewPointNigeria newsdesk suggests that at least 19 people have been feared dead, with approx. 31 hospitalised following a Cholera outbreak in Barkin Ladi local government, Plateau State.
The council chairman, Emmanuel Loman in a telephone discussion with newsmen, however debunked the initial estimate, saying that only 5 people had lost their lives, with 30 hospitalised and responding to treatment.
He averred that the council had made drugs available for the treatment of those hospitalised and had also planned a date to sensitise the people on the need to wash food crops and fruits before eating and to live in a clean environment.
Loman identified poor hygiene as one of the major causes of Cholera and adviced the people to keep their environment clean, avoid leaving in congested environments and report to the nearest hospital in the incident of frequent stooling and vomiting.
