Counting the losses: Faces of the Plateau elders who have fallen to Fulani Bullets

With the incessant attacks by Fulani herdsmen, we thought it was prudent remind our readers of the Plateau elders who have been killed through the carefully executed pogrom (i.e., ethnic cleansing)

  1. The Saf Ron Kulere (Late Chief La’azarus) 

Date of murder: 18th July 2016

Location of murder: Sha village (while returning from the inspection of his farm).

Manner of assassination/murder: Ambush. The royal father’s car was waylaid and bullets rained on it. Killing the driver, the Royal father’s son, his orderly and the Royal father’s young daughter inlaw Miss Martha Jonathan Afala.

Identity of suspected Killers: Fulani herdsmen

  1. Late Senator Gyang Dantong

Date of murder: 8th July 2012

Location of murder: Matse village – Surprise/Guerilla attack (while attending the funeral of 37 people killed earlier in the week by Fulani herdsmen).

Manner of assassination/murder: He was shot severally in the head, chest and limbs and subsequently stabbed to finish off the job. Several relatives of the dead, including mourners and police officers attending the burial were also killed.

Identity of suspected Killers: Fulani herdsmen

  1. Late Hon. Gyang Fulani (House Majority Leader of the House of Assembly)

 

Date of murder: 8th July 2012

Location of murder: Matse village – Surprise/Guerilla attack! While attending the funeral of 37 people killed earlier in the week by Fulani herdsmen.

Manner of assassination/murder: He was shot in the head and stomach. Equally stabbed. Several relatives of the dead, including mourners and police officers attending the burial were also killed.

Identity of suspected Killers: Fulani herdsmen

Government’s response: We will bring the perpetrators to justice.

Number of killers arrested or convicted: Zero (0)

Current state of investigations: Cold case (no active leads, nor further investigation by the relevant authorities)

 

 

  1. Late Da Moses Gwom (Ex- Plateau State Head of Service)

Date of murder: 10th October 2017

Location of murder: At his residence at Wereh Village (Dorowa) Barkin Ladi LGA – Guerilla attack!

Manner of assassination/murder: He was shot at point blank range. A soldier at the STF checkpoint opposite his house was first killed and then a shop attendant in his residence, before finding and killing Mr. Moses Gwom

Current state of investigations: This happened less than a month ago so we assume investigations are ongoing, but there is no indication that any leads have been identified.

 

 

  1. Late Rt. Reverend Bitrus Manjang (Former COCIN Vice President)

Date of murder: 12th December 2002

Location of murder: Rim village, in front of his residence

Manner of assassination/murder:  He was shot in front of his house along with one of his sons, his daughter-in-law and six month old child.

Identity of suspected Killers: Fulani herdsmen

Government’s response: We will bring the perpetrators to justice.

Number of killers arrested or convicted: Zero (0)

Current state of investigations: Cold case (no active leads, nor further investigation by the relevant authorities)

 

  1. Late Chief Haruna Maren (Ward head of Tadai, Manguna district Bokkos LGA)

Date of murder: 17th August 2017

Location of murder: Tadai village, at the traditional chief’s medical store

Manner of assassination/murder: Guerilla/Surprise attack!

Identity of suspected Killers: yet to be established, but Fulani herdsmen suspected

Government’s response: We will bring the perpetrators to justice.

Number of killers arrested or convicted: Zero (0)

Current state of investigations: This happened 2 months ago so we assume investigations are ongoing, but there is no indication that any leads have been identified.

 

  1. Late Chief Da Gyang Yohanna (Village head of a small community near Heipang)

Date of murder: 19th August 2010

Location of murder: Village at the out-skirts of Heipang

Manner of assassination/murder: Guerilla/Surprise attack in the dead of the night! Killed along with 8 member of his family, including two wives and children.

Identity of suspected Killers: Fulani herdsmen

Government’s response: We will bring the perpetrators to justice.

Number of killers arrested: Zero (0)

Current state of investigations: Cold case (no active leads, nor further investigation by the relevant authorities)

 

  1. Late Miskoom Francis Didi (ward head of Longvel ward in Shendam LGA)

Date of murder: 3rd August 2017

Location of murder: On the way to his farm

Manner of assassination/murder: Ambush! He was ambushed and strangled in front of his 3 children.

Identity of suspected Killers: Yet to be determined

Government’s response: We will bring the perpetrators to justice.

Current state of investigations: This happened 2 months ago so we assume investigations are ongoing, but there is no indication that any leads have been identified.

 

  1. Late Chief Mohammed Suleiman (Madaki of Gyangyang village in Kanam LGA)

Date of murder: 28th September 2017

Location of murder: His residence in Gyangyang village

Manner of assassination/murder: Summary execution! Gunmen invaded Gyangyang and went to his house, pulled him out and killed him.

Identity of suspected Killers: Yet to be determined

Government’s response: We will bring the perpetrators to justice.

Current state of investigations: This happened 1 month ago so we assume investigations are ongoing, but there is no indication that any leads have been identified.

 

10. Late Saf Andong Adake (District Head of Manguna)

Date of murder: 26th May 2016

Location of murder: While returning from the weekly traditional council meeting in Bokkos LGA.

Manner of assassination/murder: Ambush. Siege was laid on his car, while himself and an orderly were returning from their weekly council of chiefs meeting in Bokkos and both were killed through gun shot wounds.

Identity of suspected Killers: Fulani herdsmen

Government’s response: We will bring the perpetrators to justice.

Current state of investigations:  Cold case (no active leads, nor further investigation by the relevant authorities)

 

Note: these are simply the notable individuals who have felled to Fulani bullets and machetes. The tens of thousands of others who have been murdered are in addition. Not to mention the billions of dollars of property losses etc.
