Efforts to curb incessant attacks in villages in Plateau State have received a boost as the State government in collaboration with chairmen of the 17 local government areas of the State used the proceeds from the SURE-P funds to purchase 129 Hilux vans for patrol and crime fighting, especially in the hinterlands. The vans which were recently distributed to the 17 local government areas and security personnel from the Army, Police, DSS, Immigration, Civil Defence and the State-owned Operation Rainbow are to intensify patrols in the hinterland to forestall any security breach in the areas.

Speaking with Vanguard Metro, VM, the State Coordinator of Operation Rainbow, AVM Bala Danbaba whose office is responsible for the distribution of the vehicles said he believed that the additional means of mobility will strengthen the logistics of the outfit and help the operatives in combating crime in the rural areas. AVM Danbaba stated issues of cow rustling, armed robbery and other civil disturbances will be tackled on time as there would be improvement in prompt arrival at scenes of disturbances. According to him: “These additional vehicles were bought in collaboration with the State government and the Association of Local Government of Nigeria, ALGON, in the State using the SURE-P funds. The STF had been on ground and our operatives had earlier been trained in neighbourhood watch, personal protection awareness and unarmed combat. They will work in collaboration with the Military, Civil Defense, Immigration and others to patrol the volatile areas of the local government areas”. These collaborations will beef up the strength and the vehicles will ensure mobility and prompt response to the point of needs and we believe issues like “cow rustling, armed robbery and other disturbances will be promptly addressed”.

The Coordinator urged the operatives to give their best as government will also give them the support they need for the State to remain peaceful.
