Reports  reaching ViewPointNigeria suggests that the Plateau State Universal Basic Education Board claims to have spent N1.7 billion on the renovation of 288 classrooms and the construction of 234 new ones in the 2012 period. 

The claim was made by Lyop Mang, the chairperson of the board on Monday in Jos. She expressed gratitute to the State Government led by Jonah Jang for the timely provision of counterpart funds for both the Educational Trust Fund (ETF) and the Universal Basic Education Commisions (UBEC) projects. Suggesting that the execution of the project would not have been possible without the cooperation of the State Government.

She averred that the N1.7 billion used for the various projects was a sum total of counterpart funds provided by the Plateau State Government, the Federal Government and UBEC. No details were provided as to how the board apportioned the monies to the various construction and renovation projects or the nature of the contracts awarded, but she she said the evidence of the expenditure and projects executed are clear.

This development is coming at the backdrop of the protracted local government teacher’s strike which paralysed academic activities in the state for several months.
