A prominent entertainment icon Charles Udeh Fisty has made a passionate call on the Government of Plateau state under his excellency Barr. Simon Bako Lalong to invest in the entertainment industry by empowering upcoming music stars in Jos to enable them achieve their dreams and help move the economy of the state forward. He made the remarks on his official facebook page in the light of an upcoming music show in Jos sponsored by the Governor.
FULL STATEMENT
“I sincerely feel bad for performing artists on the Plateau! A few minutes ago I heard about a peace concert dated to happen this week, sponsored by the Governor himself. On the list are all artists from Lagos and none, as seen on the flyer, are based in Jos. This has got to be the highest form of disregard for artists living in Plateau State. Some of the Lagos artists that I have been privileged to meet or work with will not move an inch without being paid millions. After which they will travel back and invest into their community.. And you wonder why Lagos is on top of things. It’s not rocket science… Pay a Jos artist 500k and when he/she buys food, clothes, recording sessions or whatever, the money circulates and helps out OUR economy, OUR industry. Guys, don’t get me wrong… I’m not calling for any boycotts… but this is why Plateau is still at the level it is in the entertainment industry; and it always will be if nothing changes.
PMAN Jos Chapter (Performing Musicians Association of Nigeria), which is supposed to be on the look out for artists can’t even function because of the division that exists within itself. I know for a fact that there is an interim commitee, but I found out that the power struggle between the old/new leadership is pretty much on going. How can two walk together if they don’t agree?
The moment someone has a brilliant idea to move the industry forward is when they’re slapped with “you’re not an indigene”. Kai!!! All this backwardness is sad! We are our own enemy.
God heal us all”.
