Governor Jonah Jang of Plateau state has called for a replacement of old politicians with the younger ones in Plateau politics. He was speaking on Friday in Jos at a lecture held in his honour to celebrate his 70th birthday. Jang said that the older politicians have refused to mentor the younger generation who should succeed them.

He said “We have set machineries in motion to weed the old brigades from contesting in future polls as a way of minimising corruption in the system. The reason we have a lot of rot in the system is that the old politicians have deliberately refused to groom the young generation of politicians. We are ready to mentor the young politicians so as to take over from us. We are not against the old politicians, but we want those patriotic young people to take over the mantle of leadership from us”.

The Senate President, David Mark called on those holding political office to imitate the good leadership qualities of Governor Jang. He applauded the organisers of the lecture to honour a friend, associate and colleague in their military days. Mark said “Governor Jang is reliable, honest and committed to uplift the living standards of the common man in the society. Jang is committed to his principles and ideologies of salvaging the rural folks from misery, hunger and diseases”.

Secretary of Plateau state Government, Professor Shedrack Best stated that the lecture was structured to provoke ideas linking with survival of the nation. He said “The lecture has been designed in such a way that most of the nagging political problems facing the Middle-belt and Nigeria will be trashed”. Best commended the guests who honoured the event and said that without them the lecture wouldn’t have been a success.
