Photo News: ViewPointNigeria provides relief materials for survivors at Shonong village

In keeping with our commitment to our fellow citizens who have faced very challenging times in the past few months due to perpetual attacks. ViewPointNigeria has continued with its efforts to publicize the extent of the carnage and to bring succour to the victims of the attacks in whatever ways possible.

As such, relief materials were purchased by ViewPointNigeria and its partners this week and was delivered to Rev. John Dambwarang (of the Christian Association of Nigeria) enroute for distribution to the survivors of the attack at Shonong village. See pictures below.

It would be recalled that on the 4th of January 2014, suspected Fulani marauders invaded Shonong village killing 30 people, injuring 55 and destroying property worth millions of Naira (including 53 houses). Several children were orphaned, wifes were made widows and men widowers. Scores of people were left critically injured -requiring intensive care and treatment and therefore ViewPointNigeria thought it was expedient to run a campaign to highlight the plight of the survivors. This campaign was tagged “Shonong in Ruins”.

In running the campaign, ViewPointNigeria continued to profile the village and then asked for donations and contributions to build a monument as a remembrance/legacy for the victims of the attacks. Discussion in respect of errecting the monument is still in progress with CAN, even though there have been setbacks about the possibility of securing a piece of land within the CAN HQ for erecting the monument. And we are still considering what other options may be available.
