The Governor of Plateau State Da. Jonah Jang has come out to deny insinuations that he has zoned the 2015 Governorship slot to the Plateau Northern Senatorial Zone. He made the assertions at the 3rd session of the Plateau General Assembly –an interdenominational initiative of the state Government, where different religious groups, politicians and government appointees are invited to pray for the state.

Visibly irritated by the insinuations, Jang denied that he had zoned the slot to any section of the state –saying it was ridiculous that some people thought so and that it was even more laughable that some were suggesting that he was grooming his son to succeed him. He called the people peddling such rumours as agents of mischief and malicious elements who seek to sow discord amongst the people.

Quoting one of the preachers at the event, he said “as the Man of God said in his message, I was chosen by God to lead this state and I remain very grateful to God for selecting me, a humble servant to lead his people in Plateau. I can assure you that to this time that I am speaking to you, I do not know who will succeed me and I continue to seek the face of God in this regard”.

He said in terms of the person to succeed him in 2015, anyone who was capable of moving the state to higher heights should be of interest to the people and then used the opportunity to urge the people of the state to continue to pray for the state and the nation.

It is no secret that currently in the Plateau political space, very few politicians have come out openly to declare their interest in the gubernatorial seat. Most appear to be treading carefully, to see the political moves/permutations of the governor before putting their cards on the table.

Given the uncertainty and lack of clarity about who would be the best candidate to succeed Governor Jonah Jang, ViewPointNigeria has commission an opinion poll –asking people four simple questions to determine who the best candidate is, so as to assist the relevant decision makers in making a sound judgement. The results of the opinion poll are currently being collated in Jos and shall be published next week. (Watch-out for it).
