About 22 persons have been reported killed by gunmen suspected to be Fulani herdsmen in Mavo village of Wase Local Government Area of Plateau. The attack which happened in the early hours of Thursday morning also left ten houses burnt.

An eyewitness said that the gunmen in their hundreds stormed the village at about 2am and started shooting sporadically and targeting people who were scampering to safety. The witness added that the incident caused tension in Wase town leading to protest by youths who were swiftly dispersed by security operatives.

Mr Zakari Haruna who is the interim administrator of Wase LGA confirmed the attack but did not state the number of people killed or injured. The Plateau state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Felicia Anselm confirmed the attack but added that she had not been briefed on the details. She said, “I am yet to get the details of the incident. I am expecting the field reports from our men on the ground.”
