Olakpe warned the Izala and Derika sects to maintain the peace during the celebration which is the birthday of the Prophet Mohammed. He reminded the sects that the celebration is a worldwide event and should not be marred by violence in the state. He informed them that the police was aware of the threat of a showdown during the festivity.

The National Publicity Secretary of Izala, Alhaji Ahmed Muhammad stated that his group was a peaceful one but that the Derika group were the ones provoking his members with the manner they chose to go about the celebration this year. He added that the Derika group planned to paste posters and decorations around the Izala’s mosque and house of the spiritual leader, Sheikh Yahaya Jingre knowing fully well that the Izala were against the display of pictures and decorations.
Reacting to the allegation, Alhaji Nazif Ahmed who is the Secretary of the Derika group said that the Izala group had never supported the celebration of the prophet’s birthday and that they cannot rule out the possibility that some troublemakers might want to use the festivity period to foment trouble between the two groups.
