Plateau state will be the first state in the country to switch from analogue terrestrial television system onto digital. The National Broadcasting Commission ( NBC ) announced that the switch will take place by June 17 this year.

Justifying the reason for choosing Jos Plateau as the first city for the switch, Mr Emeka Mba who is the Director-General (DG) of the commission told journalists in Abuja that the choice of Jos was because of its compact nature and fair housing of many government and privately owned broadcasting stations.

The DG stated that the development was in strict compliance to the resolutions that was arrived at its broadcast summit that was held in October 2013. He added that vital roadmap was set for achieving the country’s deadline for Digital Switch Over (DSO) by December 2014. He added that the summit Digit team put in place to oversee the success of the mandate has been working diligently and voiced out his happiness that there is light at the end of the tunnel.

Mba said the commission was working on ensuring that the signal distribution is attained on board to kick start the system straightaway. He said that the enabling laws that will help in the smooth running of digital transmission was being looked into while the collaboration with sister agencies and relevant bodies have begun to ensure the realisation.
