First ever edition of the “Jos Carnival” in over-drive, set for Easter 2017

The maiden edition of Jos Carnival will hold during this year’s Easter celebrations, Mr Peter Mwankon, Plateau Commissioner for Culture, Tourism and Hospitality, said on Friday in Jos.

Mwankon made the disclosure while defending the ministry’s 2017 budget before the State House of Assembly Committee on Culture and Tourism.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that lack of funds stalled earlier plans to hold the carnival in December 2016.

”You will recall that we made arrangements to hold the the maiden edition of this carnival in December last year, but paucity of funds hindered the plans.

”It was not captured in the 2016 budget, and so it was difficult for us to access funds.

“But by the special grace of God, we shall be holding the carnival during this year’s Easter season.

“Because it is the first of its kind on the Plateau, we are optimistic that the event will attract thousands of tourists to the state and that will as well generate huge revenue for us,” he said.

The Chairman of the committee, Mr Nyam Dareng assured of the assembly’s support to any programme that would project and promote the tourism potentials of the state. (NAN)
