All is not well in the University of Jos. Students as well as lecturers seems to be caught up in the web of confusion over resumption of academic activities.

It will be recalled that the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) called off the over 5 months old strike a few days ahead of the Christmas celebration and Ideally, schools ought to have resumed on the 6th of January 2014. It is against this backdrop that the Students Union Government held an emergency meeting basically to mobilize students to register their grievances over the lecturers refusal to resume academic activities. The SUG president comrade Ajik Magaji chaired the meeting which was quite hot and calmed students from taking the law into their hands by violently reacting to the ugly development. The meeting started by 10AM at Naraguta hostel Cafteria but was poorly attended by students.

The issue of development levy was also raised. It is a contentious problem in the sense that students pay annually the development of infrastructure but ASUU is always embarking on strike over poor infrastructure on campuses. As at the time the meeting was going on, ASUU and the school management were holding a closed door meeting to address the problem in order to allow academic activities to commence in earnest.

More details will come later.
