Plateau state Chairman of the state Independent Commission (PLASIEC), Mr Peter Dalyop stated on Wednesday that the commission has inaugurated a committee to ensure a free and fair Local Government election in the state.

The chairman was speaking in Jos when members of a civil society group “Conflict Management Regional Council” paid him a visit in his office. He said that the commission will engage services of relevant stakeholders and civil society groups for the polls.

The chairman was speaking in Jos when members of a civil society group “Conflict Management Regional Council” paid him a visit in his office. He said that the commission will engage services of relevant stakeholders and civil society groups for the polls.

Dalyop defended the earlier postponements of the election from December 21 to January 30 and said the date was reached after consultation with stakeholders. He attributed the postponement to ”some unanticipated operational challenges” and added that a Community Relations Committee has been constituted to moderate the activities of stakeholders.

The electoral boss called on the parties to abide by the election guidelines while adding that the registered political parties have been notified of the new date for election. He commended the civil society groups for their determination in ensuring a free, fair and peaceful election.

Leader of the Civil society group, Mr Ezekiel Gomwalk said that the visit was mainly to seek an avenue for partnership of the commission in training and enlightenment of the electorate.
