Ahead of the local government election in Plateau State scheduled to hold on 30th January, next year, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, yesterday held primaries amidst tight security to select candidates for the poll.

The primaries were held in 15 local government areas out of the 17 local councils of the state. The state government had earlier directed that elections should not be held in Jos North and Wase local government areas due to security reasons.
ViewPointNigeria, while monitoring the primaries in the I5 councils observed that the elections were generally peaceful.
In Jos South, former management committee chairman of the council, Hon. Peter Vwang Dung emerged winner at the primary held at the old secretariat of the council area in Jos.

Announcing the result of the primary, the returning officer and Commissioner for Science and Technology, Mrs. Comfort Piwuna, said Dung scored 115 votes while his opponent, Ishaya Gadu polled 15 votes.
In Shendam, former chairman of the council, Mr Kemi Nshe also emerged winner. Speaking to newsmen shortly after the primary, Dung said he will reach out to the loser so as to join hand with him to move the council forward if voted as chairman of the council in the January 2014 election
