The orgy of violence and carnage on the Plateau appears to have recommenced again, with a gruesome attack on Monday night at three locations in Barkin ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State. Up to about 40 people are reported to have been killed in the attack with scores injured and property worth millions of Naira destroyed. The dead were said to include pregnant women, children and the aged –who were murdered helplessly as they attempted to flee their homes.

At a burial ceremony conducted at Tatu, one of the three ravaged villages, Dr. Soja Bewarang, the Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, in Plateau, Dr. Soja Bewarang prayed for the soul of the faithfully departed and questioned why such occurrences have continued unabated.

Residents of the area appear helpless and traumatised as they continue to ask questions about why these attacks have lingered on without solution. The population of several villages in the area are said to have been decimated by the frequent attacks and only a small number of residents still remain because the bread winners of a lot of the families have already been murdered.
