Information available to ViewPointNigeria shows that the Judicial Commission of Inquiry set up by the Governor of Plateau State, Barr. Simon Lalong, to investigate the financial activities of the past administration of Da J D Jang has commenced sitting in Jos.

At the inaugural public sitting held yesterday, Chairman of the Commission, Justice Stephen Adam, disclosed that 105 memoranda were submitted to the commission.

With regards the modus operandi of the commission, the chairman confirmed that the commission will sit six days a week (taking a break on Sundays) -in a bid to meet its agreed timeline.

He re-iterated the objectives of the commission as merely a fact-finding commission, mandated with the obligation to inquire into the terms of reference specified by the state government, with particular emphasis on making findings and recommendations which it considers necessary (all in a span of three months from the date of inauguration).

He added that all concerned parties had been served with copies of the memoranda, adding that the parties would be given the opportunity to present their submissions personally or through any legal practitioner of their choice. The chairman further solicited the support and cooperation of members of the public and those concerned to avoid any act of time wastage or disruption of proceedings of the commission, while urging the media to engage in fair and accurate reporting of the events at the proceedings. Meanwhile, the State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Jonathan Mawiyau, said the commission was set up to investigate, not prosecute anyone, expressing confidence that the chairman and members had what it takes to deliver on the assignment.
