The National Association of Plateau State Students, NAPSS, NTA Television College chapter, yesterday, protested the transfer of five top management staff of the institution and appointment of a new Rector.

The students wondered why an institution in need of staff with higher academic qualifications to get NUC full accreditation would transfer a staff with a Ph.D. They said: “It is because those transferred are of Plateau origin, who might eventually expose irregularities in the college. “We demand the immediate reversal of all the politically-motivated transfers. Merit and due process must be followed.”

The students, led by NAPSS President, NTA TV College, Makut Mashat, and NAPSS National President, Vilret John, handed over a protest letter to Governor Simon Lalong, and copied the State House of Assembly Speaker, Peter Azi, among others. They stressed that the state had been shortchanged since the inception of the College, despite the free donation of its permanent site without any form of compensation.

The letter read in part: “It is with the greatest dismay that the NAPSS, NTA TVC Chapter and NAPSS National Body, Plateau Youths Council, parents and concerned students wish to draw the attention of relevant authorities and the general public to the unfair treatment of some members of staff of NTA Television College, Jos, who are indigenous people of Plateau State.”

Governor Lalong, who was represented by Mr. Joseph Lengmang, Director-General of Plateau State Peace Building Agency, promised to look into the issues raised.
